Cort started his career in the marine industry when he joined the US Coast Guard in February 2002. During his time in the USCG as a Machinery Technician, he logged over 150,000 miles at sea, completed a circumnavigation of the world in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, received numerous awards and a Coast Guard Achievement Medal, and ultimately achieved the rank of 1st Class Petty Officer. Cort was honorably discharged in November 2010.
Since 2010, he has been actively working in the recreational marine industry. Past positions include: technician, lead technician, service writer, commercial projects manager, service manager, and currently training and development manager. Cort achieved status as an ABYC Master Technician in 2015. He has a passion for marine technician training and was an adjunct technical instructor for the ABYC from 2016-2019. He serves on the Program Advisory Committee for both the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding Marine Systems Program and for the Lake Michigan College Marine Systems Program.
