FINANCE AND INSURANCE Testimonials

"I'd like to extend our gratitude to Elizabeth and Travis for the job they have done in selling our boat and the help they provided in purchasing the new-to-us boat. The behind the scenes work of Elizabeth in the business office was phenomenal, and Travis has gone above and beyond to accommodate us and lend his professional experiences. We couldn't be happier with JBYS and we would use them again and recommend them to anyone else looking to buy or sell."

Donald | Sea Ray 510 Sundancer

"Travis at JBYS was awesome. The finance office also made all the transactions easy with the sale of my boat."

Regal 2000 ES Bowrider | Sold

"I can't even begin to describe how amazing my experience was here. Ron Montoya was always cheerful and always had our best interest at heart. He told us when a boat was not right for us, even if it was a boat owned by the brokerage. He was always available whenever I called, no matter how trivial the questions were. Even after the sale, he made sure any help we needed, he provided. Then there was Sam Mesi. He was very knowledgeable and always gave his honest opinion. For example, when he thought a boat he was selling was overpriced, he told us. Sam even took my family on a three day trip to bring the boat to Boyne from St. Claire. He taught me all along the way making sure I was able to handle the boat myself. All the while, he stayed calm and even keel no matter the situation. I can't forget to mention the wealth of information that is the business office. They answered every question about financing, and even got me a lower rate at the last moment. They helped to find insurance, documentation, and anything else I needed to acquire the boat. I also want to extend a special thank you to David Ottenhoff, Jerome Haynes, Kevin Dettloff, David Lesh and the entire service team. They were all the upmost professionals, and answered any and every question I had. They were also very efficient at correcting any service problems. The entire team, starting with Ron and Sam, have made this first time boater much more comfortable and the overall experience was unbelievable. I thank all of you so much."

Galeon 430 Sky | Purchased

"I wanted to tell you this purchase was one of the easiest experiences I have had in years. First of all I cannot say enough about Jim Stefano, from the very first meeting he was very impressive. He has a unique ability to become your friend before you even realize he is also a salesman. Throughout the process he made himself available and sought answers to each and every question. I am sure you already know, Jim is a solid asset to JBYS. I also wanted to recognize the finance office, who also from the very start made sure everything went as planned, on schedule, and the closing was painless."

Valhalla V-41 | Purchased

"Captain Travis Smith out did himself throughout the entire process. From start to finish his communication was excellent and the amount of time spent with us was second to none. He took the time to help us find exactly what we were looking for without any pressure to make a wrong decision.  When it came time for closing the finance office could not have been more helpful, thorough and responsive. They were rock stars throughout the process and handled everything at a moments notice. Overall a five-star company that is there for the long-term relationship, not a quick sale."

Rinker 342 | Purchased

"JBYS is very fortunate to have such an awesome finance office on the team!  They have been on top of this and able to answer any questions and concerns to make this transaction as simple as possible!  They deserve a round of thanks! (and drinks!)"

Absolute 45 Fly

"I just wanted to send you a note to compliment both Sam Mesi and the finance office. It turns out the previous owner of the Sunseeker Portofino 40 left the waste tank full (ewww gross). Sam made it a priority to accompany me to the pump-out dock and empty it himself. The full tank really wasn't a huge deal to me (after all, emptying waste tanks is one of the many not-so-glamorous jobs of boating), but the fact that he insisted upon helping me showed genuine care for the business he cultivated and, ultimately, earned. Next up is the finance office. Everyone I came into contact with was organized, savvy, great communicators, and all-around joyful. It was great having them as a resource throughout the transactions. In an interesting way, going through a sale and purchase may have inspired a career change in me...who knew selling boats could be fun, even in snowy January! Anyway, as I look forward to summer, I didn't want to forget to acknowledge these rockstars and the stellar way in which they represent JBYS!"

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT Finance and Insurance yachts

How Does Boat Financing Work?

Boat loans function similarly to auto loans, where a lender provides funding for your purchase, and you make fixed monthly payments over a set period. The loan amount, interest rate, and repayment terms depend on factors like your credit score, loan size, and the boat’s age and type.

What Are Typical Loan Terms?

Boat loan terms vary, but they typically range from 5 to 20 years, depending on the loan amount and type of vessel. Larger loans for premium yachts may offer extended repayment periods, making monthly payments more manageable.

What Credit Score Do I Need to Qualify?

While requirements differ by lender, a higher credit score generally improves your chances of securing a loan with better interest rates. Most lenders prefer a score of 700 or higher, though financing is available for those with lower scores at adjusted terms.

How Much Do I Need for a Down Payment?

Down payments typically range from 10% to 25% of the purchase price. Factors like credit history, loan size, and the boat’s age can influence the required amount. In some cases, lenders may offer flexible options based on financial strength.

Can I Finance a Used Boat?

Yes, used boats can be financed, though terms may differ from those for new boats. Lenders consider factors like the vessel’s age, condition, and market value when structuring loan terms. Generally, newer boats qualify for longer financing terms than older models.

Can I Finance a Boat Purchased from a Private Seller?

Yes! Many lenders offer financing for boats purchased through private sales, though the process may involve additional steps. Typically, lenders require a marine survey and title verification to confirm the boat’s value and ensure there are no outstanding liens. We can help guide you through this process to ensure a smooth and secure transaction.

What Interest Rates Are Available?

Interest rates are based on credit score, loan amount, and term length. Rates fluctuate based on market conditions, and securing a lower rate often requires a strong credit profile. Contact us to explore current financing options tailored to your needs.

Can I Finance Additional Costs?

In some cases, lenders allow you to finance additional expenses, such as taxes, registration, and extended warranties. This varies by lender, so it’s important to discuss your specific needs when applying.

Is Boat Insurance Required for a Loan?

Yes, most lenders require insurance coverage for the loan duration. This ensures protection against damages, theft, or total loss. Proof of insurance is typically needed before finalizing the loan agreement. Our team can introduce you to our preferred partners for an insurance quote today.

Are There Prepayment Penalties?

Some boat loans include prepayment penalties, while others allow early repayment without fees. Review your loan terms carefully to understand any potential costs associated with paying off your loan early.

How Do I Apply for a Boat Loan?

The application process involves submitting financial documents such as income verification, credit history, and details about the boat. Our financing specialists can guide you through the process, helping you secure the best possible terms. I would move this to number 5.

Can I Get Pre-Approved?

Yes! Pre-approval helps streamline your boat-buying experience by giving you a clear understanding of your budget and loan eligibility. Contact our team to start your pre-approval process today.
