Mercury Marine is eager to announce to the marine industry the all new 350 and 400HP Verado engines. The first V10 outboard engines.
Mercury Marine is a division of Brunswick Corporation (NYSE: BC). The brand is ready to unveil the industry’s first ever V10 outboards. This news came with the official launch of its all-new 5.7L 350 and 400hp Verado outboard engines.
The new V10 engines will be consistent with the award-winning Verado brand. they will also mark the quietest and smoothest in their class. These engines will run 45% quieter than a leading competitor at cruising speed. The new Verado’s are set to be compatible with the latest Mercury Smart Craft technologies. They will also offer an optional dual-mode 48V/12V alternator. This feature will exist to pair with Navico Group’s Fathom e-Power System. The power system is an integrated lithium-ion auxiliary power management system. Its function is to cut the need for an onboard generator system.
The V10 outboards are going to use many of the same features as the company’s popular V12, V8 and V6 platforms. They will include premium refinements and versatility for a wide range of applications. This will stem from large saltwater center consoles to single-engine freshwater fishing boats. Even pontoons and smaller center consoles will potentially be compatible.
The engines will weigh only 695 pounds and hold the same 26-inch mount spacing as the V8s. The V10 engines will maximize compatibility with current boat designs. This lightweight, compact design will provide the performance boaters are looking for. They will also be perfect for multi-engine applications or repowering vessels.
Aspirated 5.7L V10 Engine
The new platform will feature the outboard industry’s first V10 aspirated powerhead. It will leverage class-leading 5.7L displacement and a performance-inspired quad-cam. These features are going to propel boats ahead with exceptional speed and acceleration. An 150-amp alternator will charge onboard batteries. It will also support the boat’s electrical system.
All-New Gearcase
The platform’s all-new hydrodynamic gearcase will improve performance and durability. It will also maximizing fuel efficiency. Mercury engineers went back to first principles engineering. They designed the all-new Revolution X propeller to match the V10 Verado in every way. Larger diameter and wider blades will combine with the deep ratio of the new gearcase. This will provide excellent handling, thrilling acceleration and high efficiency. Efficiency will remain consistent from low speed all the way to wide-open throttle.
Efficient All-Around Performance
These outboards will calibrate to deliver full performance on 87-octane fuel. They will also feature efficiency-enhancing technologies. Technologies are to include a closed-loop fuel system and Advanced Range Optimization (ARO).
Intuitive Features and Advanced Technologies
Adaptive Speed Control is set to maintain engine rpm, despite changes in conditions. This is going to making climbing large swells easier and cruising at low speeds smoother. Transient Spark Technology can also adjust spark timing to optimize low-end power. The V10 Verado engines will also be compatible with new Mercury electric steering. New steering systems are for multi-outboard vessels. They are are slated to start shipping in February 2023. The new system will offer enhanced steering responsiveness and simplified rigging. They will also offer a more than 50% reduction in energy consumption
The development of the new outboards is a product of Mercury’s commitment to invest in R&D. Mercury also maintains production capacity to keep up with robust customer demand. To that end, the company has invested $2B since 2008. Its manufacturing footprint has expanded to more than 3 million sq ft and will continue to grow.
